Perhaps the most common question we’re asked is ‘how big can I print my iPhone photos’?
There is nothing worse than getting a print back and realising that your child’s face is starting to resemble a Lego man rather than the adorable human you see in front of you. Pixelation is far cuter on the Lego man, let us assure you.
Overselling It
Thanks to certain phone manufacturers there are some misconceptions out there that your phone will print a beautiful wall sized print and look superb. While we wish this were true, it sadly isn’t. So let’s cut through the puffery and get to the facts.
Understanding Resolution
We love maths. And science. But chances are that if you’re reading this article you don’t want a full-scale explanation of the numbers. If you do want more information pixels, ppi, dpi and so on, let us know and we’ll happily have a chat.
How Big to Print
Every photo has a ‘sweet’ spot depending on the type of camera you’ve used to take the photo, whether you’ve cropped that image and whether you’ve edited that image or used an App. However, we’ve simplified this into our “Print Up To X Size iPhone Guide” below.

In other words, you could print up to 16 x 20” on earlier models, or 20 x 30” on the newer iPhones and have a printable image. The quality won’t be perfect on an ‘Adequate’ image, but it will be passable.
Our online ordering software is set to alert you when you fall below an ‘Adequate’ level. If you’re looking for optimum resolution, make sure your image is at least 300ppi. Or come and chat to us to make sure your images are just as you want them to be.
There’s no such thing as a stupid question, let us know what you’d love to know. Be it resolution, colours, editing, shooting, papers or anything else. Comment below or email hello@fredsnow.com with the photography questions you’d love answered and we’ll get to work answering them.
